Leitersburg Community Center Information

Community Center Opened Jan 12th 2021

The Leitersburg Ruritan Community Center obtained its use and occupancy permit on Dec 15th 2020.  The gym flooring was completed on Jan 10th 2021 and the Center hosted its first activites on Tuesday Jan 12th 2021.


The Center is off to a busy start holding adult pickleball games during the day and youth volleyball and basketball practices in the evening.  Boy Scout Troop 108 is enjoying its new meeting room and gymnasium.


The Ruritan is now having its monthly meetings and dinners on the first Monday of each month starting at 6:30 in the new meeting room.


An official opening ceremony will take place later this Spring when we can host a large gathering of visitors.

4/17/2018 Site meeting with architects, engineers to discuss concept.

8/26/2019 Civil Engineering plans by Frederick Seibert & Associates Completed and approved

9/1/2019 Construction drawings with mechanical and structural engineers started

12/4/2019 State approved NPDES permit

12/5/2019 D.L. George & Sons Excavation hired to do mass grading

12/10/2019 Demolition permit for existing restrooms approved

12/10/2019 Mass Grading permit for site work approved

12/11/2019 Existing restrooms removed

12/12/2019 Silt sock installed, top soil removed, drilling of rock started

12/26/2019 Rock blasted

1/22/2020 site preparation complete


Phase 2 is the hiring of a general contractor, construction of the exterior of the building, completion of the restrooms, meeting rooms, water, sewer and mechanical systems.  Parking lot and storm water management areas. Phase 2 will start once the construction bids for the building are complete and we have sufficient funds to complete it.  Our goal is to have phase 2 completed by the fall of 2020.

1/28/2020 Bid review meeting

3/1/2020 Myers Building Systems selected as general contractor

4/4/2020  Building Foundation Started

5/26/2020  Concrete Slab poured 

6/11/2020  Steel  Erection, Plumbing

8/1/2020  Building roof complete

8/5/2020 Parking lot base pavement installed


Phase 3 completion of the gymnasium flooring, sports equipment, and kitchen equipment.  The goal is to have phase 3 completed by the Winter of 2020.

12/15/2021 Use and Occupancy permit approved

1/10/2021 Gym flooring completed

1/12/2021 Sports teams begin using gym


Asset for our Community

The completed the community center will is being used by youth and adult groups, families and businesses.  Volleyball, Basketball and Pickle Ball use the facility daily for sporting activities.

      Funding Raising for new Building

      Ruritan Community Center reaches $1,200,000 mark

      The Community Center fundraising efforts have reached the $1.2  out of the estimated $1.4 million dollar goal for the new community center.  The funding is a combination of proceeds saved from the Leitersburg Haunted House and Peach Festival. along with new fundraising activities including quarter auctions and bonanza's.  The funding includes grants,  private donations, and business donations.  We are continuing our fundraising looking for additional donations, naming opportunities for parts of the building, in kind donations from contractors and grant opportunities.

      The Nora Roberts Foundation  – The primary focus of The Nora Roberts Foundation is to support literacy. Additional areas of focus are: children’s programs, arts organizations, and humanitarian efforts, with local organizations being its priority.

      New Direction Utilities Inc The Scott Family and New Direction have been huge supporters of the Ruritan and its efforts to construct the new community center, donating equipment and man power to help remove the old building and prepare the site for the new center
